Cade T. from Texas, who was only 3 months old when we helped, has Severe - Profound Sensorineural Hearing Loss.  We assisted the family in obtaining special hearing aids through Texas ENT Specialists.  This family and their church is holding a benefit to assist them further.  The family advises us that there is great improvement and the doctors are astounded.

Robert R. from North Carolina was our very first recipient.  He was 16 years old when he was 4-wheeling with a friend and his life was changed dramatically.  He followed his friend across a seldom travelled road and his 4-wheeler was hit by a car.  He suffered a serious brain injury and was in a coma for 37 days.  The doctors told his parents that if he recovered from the coma he would be a vegetable.  He proved them wrong.  Once out of the hospital, a lot of therapy was required.  Even though the doctors said it wouldn't help (and the insurance wouldn't pay for it), Mom started looking for a place (and a way) to get aquatic therapy for Robert.  Through the Internet she found both when she contacted Aquatic Care in Humble TX.  They contacted us and together we provided 30 days of aquatic therapy at no cost to the family.

Gabriel G.  from Texas was 11 years old with multiple medical problems when the family contacted us.  Aside from being hearing impaired and unable to speak, he had a kidney transplant and was on the list for another.  He was in last stage renal failure.  Due to being on steroids, the swelling in his hands prevented him from being able to learn to sign and communication with Gabe was very difficult.  We learned about his need for a "Chat PC" and were able to provided this tool for Gabe.  The family told us that it changed the lives of the entire family.

UPDATE:  On July 23, 2003 Gabe lost his battle and became our first "Lindsay's Angel".

Cody G. from Texas was 14 years old when he was kicked in the head by a horse and rendered unconscious.  He was kept in an induced coma due to fluid on the brain for approx. 3 weeks.  He was transferred from the hospital to in-patient rehabilitation where he remained for another 2 months.  He underwent speech, physical and occupational therapy.  When he later outgrew the helmet that he was required to wear when riding in a vehicle on on his horse, the family contacted us and we were able to provide the helmet.

UPDATE:  Cody became our second "Lindsay's Angel" on April 15, 2007 as a result of complications of his original injury.  Cody would have turned 19 on April 20, 2007.

Mason F. from Texas was 3 years old with Spinal Bifida and Hydrocephalus.  This has rendered him a paraplegic and caused developmental delays.  The family was in dire need of a power wheelchair lift.  GSE Lining Technology, Inc. in Houston TX held a holiday fundraiser and, through the generosity of their employees, helped to make the funding available for the purchase and installation of the lift.

Alexis H. from Texas at 3 years old required surgery for a heart condition for which her family needed assistance.  A compassionate pediatric cardiologist in Dallas TX reduced the surgical fees.  Through the generosity of participants and sponsors of our "Ride for the Bear 2004", we were able to cover the full amount of the reduced fees.

UPDATE:  This picture was taken at our "Ride for the Bear 2006" on March 25.  Alexis underwent open-heart surgery on March 27...2 days later.  She did wonderfully!

Heather T. from Texas , age 9, is one of Lindsay's Kids diagnosed with cerebral palsy.  She is a happy little girl who attends school though she is non-verbal and requires a wheelchair for mobility.  She communicates with a Mercury communications device.  We were able to fund an ECU box which allows power to run from the wheelchair battery to the communications device.  This allows Heather to have power to all her necessities for an entire day instead of for only four hours.

Lindsey and Lexie W. from Texas are 2-1/2 year old sisters in a set of triplets.

Lindsey has cerebral palsy.

Lexie's list of diagnoses includes PVL, Chronic Lungs, Muscle Spasticity and developmental delays.

Both are participating in a program of hippotherapy at Heart of Texas.
